Three good first doors: the Deaf Night Out San Antonio Facebook group, the main hub for Deaf Coffee Chat, open-captioned movies, and community announcements; Family Deaf Church, a Deaf-led church worshipping in American Sign Language; and Aid the Silent, a nonprofit helping deaf and hard-of-hearing children and teens with hearing aids, therapy, and ASL lessons.

How to find an ASL interpreter in San Antonio

For medical, legal, work, or school interpreting, start with a local agency: Deaf Interpreter Services (since 1993, onsite and by video, around the clock), Alamo City Interpreters (founded 2014), or Deaf Link for on-demand video remote interpreting, all in the directory above. Book as early as you can, and ask for BEI certified interpreters when the setting is formal.

For structured classes, San Antonio College offers ASL and interpreter training programs, including the Sign Language Interpreter A.A.S.
